MELBOURNE - Feb 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is over the eastern Tasman Sea. A low pressure trough over central Victoria will move slowly eastwards on Saturday as a cold front crosses Tasmania late in the day. The next high pressure system will be centred south of the Bight on Sunday and will extend a ridge eastwards across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayMainly dry. Isolated showers or drizzle near the southwest coast during the morning. Local early morning fogs in the south. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible about the far east during the afternoon and evening. Warm to hot inland with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds. Milder afternoon seabreezes developing near the coast.Fire Danger - High to Very highSaturday 9 FebruaryMostly dry. Isolated morning drizzle about the southwest coast. Local early morning fogs in the south. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible along the northern border, contracting to eastern Victoria by the afternoon. Warm to hot in the north and east with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds. Milder southwesterly winds developing near the coast and extending inland late afternoon and evening.Sunday 10 FebruaryIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts. Dry and mainly sunny over the northern plains. Generally cool in the south, but warmer north of the divide with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Monday 11 FebruaryDry apart from isolated showers over the southeast and along the coast, mainly during the morning. Mild in the south, but warmer over the north.
