Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers east of a line
from about Rockhampton to St George.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between St. Lawrence and
Sandy Cape.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A large, slow-moving high over the southwestern Tasman Sea extends a ridge
along the east coast of Queensland. A weak trough lies over the central interior
of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine and mostly clear across much of the state. Isolated showers along the
east coast and nearby inland areas. Mainly fine with just the chance of
isolated light showers about the Carnarvon Ranges, and isolated showers and
thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and near the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Fresh to strong S to SE winds over southern coastal waters. Moderate to
fresh SE winds along the remaining east coast, tending a light to moderate SE to
NE further inland. A Very High Fire Danger over the Channel Country District.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions should continue across much of the state's
interior with only isolated showers about the eastern districts in the onshore
flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula District and the far
northwest as moisture increases in this area. Moderate to fresh SE winds along
the east coast, light to moderate SE to NE inland. Very High Fire Danger over
the Channel Country District.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will stall near New Zealand and maintain a ridge over eastern
districts of Queensland, and fine conditions across much of the state. Mainly
isolated showers will continue over the far eastern districts, though showers
may be more scattered about the Central and Capricornia coasts as a weak trough
moves in from the Coral Sea. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the state's
northwest and the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Friday
The high will remain near New Zealand, maintaining the ridge along
Queensland's east coast, with a weak trough in the Coral Sea off the coast. The
continual onshore wind flow will allow more humid air to penetrate further
inland, and this, along with an upper level trough and the Coral Sea trough,
will allow scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms to form over the eastern
tropics. More isolated showers about the state's southeast. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the state's northwest.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will remain near New Zealand and weaken slightly, while a trough in
the Coral Sea will move closer to the northern tropical coast, generating
scattered showers and thunderstorms in the eastern tropics. A warmer and more
unstable northeasterly flow will cause isolated showers to develop further
inland into eastern districts, with isolated thunderstorms possible north of the
Wide Bay area. More isolated showers about the state's southeast. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the state's northwest.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high should weaken slightly as it lingers near New Zealand, which in turn
will allow winds along Queensland's east coast to ease. Nevertheless onshore
winds should still be able to produce at least isolated showers over the eastern
districts, and more scattered activity is possible at times, especially about
the North Tropical Coast. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible over the
eastern tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the
state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
