Weather Situation
A high in the eastern Great Australian Bight will move eastwards and enter
the Tasman Sea this evening. The high extends a ridge along the southern east
coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland with fresh to
strong S to SE winds over far southern waters. Mostly fine about the southeast
and central coast areas with only isolated showers which may extend to adjacent
inland area in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
Peninsula district and inland parts of the North Tropical coast. Minimum
temperatures should be several degrees below average across the interior. Light
to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh to strong at times about the southeast coast.
A high to very high fire danger over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and will maintain
a firm ridge and fresh to strong S to SE winds along Queensland's southeast and
central coast. These onshore winds are expected to generate isolated showers
over the eastern districts. Mostly fine over much of the interior, although very
isolated light showers may develop in the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny in
the west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected over the
Peninsula district and will develop about the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should lie near New Zealand and will maintain a ridge along
Queensland's east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of the
state's interior with only isolated showers about the eastern districts in the
onshore flow. Showers may increase to scattered about the southeast as an upper
trough moves over the area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue
over the Peninsula district and are likely to extend to the Gulf Country and far
northwest of the state as moisture increases in this area.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should remain near New Zealand and will maintain a ridge over
Queensland's eastern districts and fine conditions across much of the state.
Mainly isolated showers will continue about the east coast but these may
increase to scattered about the central and southern coast in response to the
upper trough passing the area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
state's northwest and the Peninsula district..
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high should weaken slightly as it lingers near New Zealand, which in turn
will allow winds along Queensland's east coast to ease. Nevertheless the onshore
winds should still be able to produce isolated showers over the eastern
districts, tending scattered at times, especially about the North Tropical
Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should persist through the tropics.
Fine and mostly sunny over the interior and west of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
