MELBOURNE - Feb 2/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers east of a line from about Rockhampton to St George. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters south of Gladstone, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay for Monday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge and fine conditions across most of Queensland. The high will move eastwards across southeast Australia during Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine and mostly sunny across much of the state except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district and the North Tropical coast. The remaining parts of the east coast should be mainly fine and sunny with only isolated, mainly during the morning. A relatively cool morning over the interior, particularly the southern and western interior with minima 5 to 8 degrees below the February average. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh at times about the coast and western districts. A Very High fire danger over the Northwest, Channel Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Powerful surf about the east coast of Fraser, Moreton and Stradbroke Islands. Forecast for Monday The high should move into the Tasman Sea late in the day and will maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland. The high will extend a ridge along the southern and central coasts with fresh to strong S to SE winds over far southern waters. The S to SE winds along the east coast should push enough moisture across eastern districts to result in isolated showers in those regions and these will extend to the adjacent inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected over the Peninsula district and inland parts of the North Tropical coast. Minimum temperatures will again be several degrees below average across the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high should move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and is likely to maintain a firm ridge and fresh to strong S to SE winds along Queensland's southeast and central coast. These onshore winds are expected to generate isolated showers over the eastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The high should lie near New Zealand and will maintain a ridge along Queensland's east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue across much of the state's interior with only isolated showers about the eastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue over the Peninsula district and are likely to extend to the Gulf Country and far northwest of the state as moisture increase in this area. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high should weaken slightly as it lingers near New Zealand, which in turn will allow winds along Queensland's east coast to also reduce in strength. Nevertheless the onshore winds should still be able to produce isolated showers over the eastern districts. Isolated showers and storms should persist through the tropics. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
