MELBOURNE - Feb 2/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers east of a line from about Rockhampton to St George. A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters south of Noosa, excluding Moreton Bay. A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Sunday for the Gulf Country and Northwest districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure over the Great Australian Bight is pushing dry SE to SW winds across Queensland, resulting in mostly sunny skies and very settled weather across most of the state. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine, dry and clear across most of the state except for some isolated showers and storms about the Peninsula district and the chance of some isolated showers about the southeast coast and the southern border ranges. Mainly moderate SE to SW winds across the state, fresh at times about the SE coast. Powerful surf about the exposed parts of the southeast coast south of Sandy Cape. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times about the coast and ranges. Forecast for Sunday Fine, dry and mostly sunny across the state except for some isolated showers and storms over the Peninsula district and the North Tropical Coast. The remaining parts of the east coast should be mainly fine and sunny, though there is the chance of a few isolated light showers, mainly during the morning. A relatively cool morning about the interior, particularly the southern and western interior where morning minima may be 5 to 8 degrees below the February average. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh at times about the coast and western districts. A severe fire danger over the Northwest and Gulf Country districts. A very high fire danger over the Channel Country and the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Powerful surf about the east coast of Fraser, Moreton and Stradbroke Islands. Forecast for Monday A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea will maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland, however the system should push enough moisture across the eastern districts to result in some isolated showers in those regions, and possibly as far inland as Emerald. Isolated showers and storms are again expected over the Peninsula District. Below average morning temperatures again across the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The high should move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea, and is likely to maintain a firm ridge and fresh to strong S to SE winds along Queensland's southeast and central coast. These onshore winds are likely to push mainly isolated showers over the eastern districts. Isolated showers and storms are again expected over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The high should lie near New Zealand and will maintain a ridge along Queensland's east coast, and generally settled conditions across the state except for some mainly isolated showers about the eastern districts and some isolated showers and storms over the Peninsula district, the northern interior, and the state's northwest. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high should weaken slightly as it lingers near New Zealand, which in turn will allow winds along Queensland's east coast to also reduce in strength. Nevertheless the onshore winds should still be able to produce isolated showers over the eastern districts. Isolated showers and storms should persist through the tropics. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
