MELBOURNE - Jan 30/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge lies over Victoria. A cold front will approach western Victoria later today before moving across the State on Thursday introducing colder southwesterly winds. A low pressure system is likely to develop over the Tasman Sea during Friday and Saturday. A weak cold front will move across Tasmania on Saturday while the next cold front will move across Tasmania late on Sunday, as a high pressure system develops in the Bight. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine apart from isolated showers about the far southwest coast. Light to moderate westerly winds and coastal seabreezes.Thursday 31 JanuaryScattered showers extending eastwards across the State, and tending to rain at times in the south. Only isolated showers north of the Divide. Warm, moderate to fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler, gusty southwesterly change extending from the west.Fire Danger - Generally high to very high.Friday 1 FebruaryScattered showers, mainly in southern and mountain areas. A cool to cold day with a fresh to strong and gusty south to southwesterly wind.Saturday 2 FebruaryScattered showers in East Gippsland in the morning, isolated elsewhere in southern and mountain areas. Fine over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds.Sunday 3 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south, mainly in the morning. Cool and partly cloudy in the south, warm and mainly sunny in the north.
