Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 29/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for many rivers over eastern
Queensland.
Fire Weather Warning has been issued for parts of the North West and parts of
the Channel Country, Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and
Central West districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough extends from the northern Gulf Country district south into the
central interior. Another trough near the southeast coast will move westward
during today as a ridge builds a little along the east coast. Another ridge of
high pressure extends across western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms over remaining eastern districts and the central
interior. Showers tending scattered with isolated thunderstorms in the
southeast, with some moderate falls possible with the thunderstorms. Fine and
mostly sunny conditions over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh S to
SW winds over western districts and the Gulf Country district. Light to moderate
W to NW winds over the tropics, tending SE to NE over the remainder of the
state. Powerful surf about the Southeast Coast and Fraser coast. Severe fire
dangers over the North West district and parts of the Channel Country, Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Gulf Country districts.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing in the unstable but weak
monsoonal flow over the northern tropics. Isolated showers over eastern
districts in the moist onshore flow, tending scattered along the central coast.
A weak trough may move onshore over the southeast early helping to enhance
shower activity. An upper level trough is expected to move across western and
central Queensland helping to destabilise the atmosphere. The surface trough is
expected to lie from the northwest to the southern interior and in combination
with the upper level feature should trigger at least isolated shower and
thunderstorm activity to its east. Fine and mostly sunny conditions over
remaining parts of the state in the dry S'ly airstream. Elevated fire dangers
are likely to persist in the far west of the state.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough should lie from the Gulf Country into the southeast
interior with moist air feeding into its east and thus again triggering
isolated showers and thunderstorms. The upper level trough is expected to shift
eastwards with the focus for scattered shower and thunderstorm activity shifting
into the central and southeast interior and the northeastern tropics. Fine and
sunny conditions over remaining western districts in the dry S'ly airstream.
Elevated fire dangers are likely to persist in the west of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface trough should shift eastwards to extend from the Gulf Country to
the central coast, with isolated showers and thunderstorms occurring to its
east. The upper level trough is expected to move through the southeast early
with possible shower and thunderstorm activity ahead of it. Conditions will
remain fine and sunny elsewhere in the cooler and drier S'ly airstream. Elevated
fire dangers are likely to persist in the west of the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Cool, dry air will push across from the west on Sunday due to a ridge
extending across much of the state, bringing fine conditions. The ridge should
also build along the east coast in the wake of the surface trough bringing
showers to most parts of the east coast. The surface trough should linger in the
tropics with isolated showers and thunderstorms occurring to its north and east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
