MELBOURNE - Jan 28/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for many rivers over eastern Queensland. A Severe Weather Warning has been cancelled for the Southeast Coast district for dangerous surf. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Point Lookout and Point Danger, excluding Moreton Bay. A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country, Central West and North West districts and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Maranoa and Warrego districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald is located near Tamworth, New South Wales, and is moving rapidly further south. A trough extends from the eastern Gulf Country to the western Darling Downs. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Mostly cloudy with some early morning drizzle over the far southeast, clearing to a fine and mostly sunny day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics. Isolated showers about the central coast and adjacent inland. Fine and mostly clear over the remainder. Moderate W to NW winds in the southeast, and also about the northern tropics. Moderate to fresh S to SW winds over the west. Powerful surf about the Southeast Coast and Fraser coast. Severe fire dangers over western districts and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Goldfields and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very High fire danger over the Gulf Country. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough will extend from the eastern Gulf Country to the southern interior. A moist onshore flow feeding into areas east of the surface trough should lead to isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts. Showers and thunderstorms should also continue over the far north. Fine over the remainder of the state with elevated fire dangers likely to persist in the west and central interior due to a dry, fresh southerly flow. Forecast for Thursday Moist air should remain over the eastern parts of the state. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected about the eastern districts as an upper trough moves through southern Queensland. Fine over the far west of the state and the southern interior of the state in a dry south to southwest flow. Elevated fire dangers are likely to persist in the west of the state. Forecast for Friday Moist air should remain over the eastern parts of the state. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected about the eastern districts as a stronger upper trough moves towards eastern parts from western Queensland. Fine over the west of the state and southern interior of the state in a dry south to southwest flow. Elevated fire dangers are likely to persist in the west of the state. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the eastern parts of the state on Saturday, with fine conditions in the west. Dry air will then push across from the west on Sunday, with isolated showers over some eastern districts, with isolated thunderstorms in the north. Remaining fine inland.
