Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 27/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for many rivers over eastern
Queensland
A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Wide Bay region for abnormally high
tides.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Southeast district and the Granite
Belt for damaging to destructive winds, abnormally high tides and dangerous
surf.
A Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Point
Danger, including Moreton Bay.
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country, Central West and
North West districts and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and
Maranoa and Warrego districts.

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald is located over northern parts of the Darling
Downs and Granite Belt district and is expected to cross the New South Wales
later today. A trough extends from the far northern Gulf Country to Ex-Tropical
Cyclone Oswald.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers, patchy, mainly moderate rain areas and isolated
thunderstorms over the southeast, easing during the day. Damaging to destructive
winds over the southeast, easing during the day. Abnormally high tides about the
Wide Bay and southeast coasts.  Rough surf and coastal erosion about the
Southeast Coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula.
Fine over the remainder of the state. Severe fire dangers over the western
districts and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Goldfields and Maranoa
and Warrego districts. Very High to Severe fire dangers in the Maranoa and
Warrego districts. Strong to gale force and gusty E to NE winds about the far
southeast of the state. Moderate to fresh W to NW winds over the northern
tropics. Moderate to fresh S to SW winds over most of the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak surface trough is likely to persist about the southeast of the state
leading to early scattered showers that should clear during the day. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Just the chance of some
isolated afternoon showers about the remainder of the far eastern districts.
Fine over the remainder of the state with elevated fire dangers likely to
persist in the west and central interior due to a dry, fresh southerly flow.
Forecast for Wednesday
A surface trough is likely to extend from the northwest to the southern
interior. A moist onshore flow feeding into areas east of the surface trough
should lead to isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts,
more widespread over Cape York Peninsula. Fine over the remainder of the state
with elevated fire dangers likely to persist in the west and central interior
due to a dry, fresh southerly flow.
Forecast for Thursday
Moist air should remain over the eastern parts of the state. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected about the eastern districts.
Fine over the west of the state and southern interior of the state in a dry
south to southwest flow. Elevated fire dangers are likely to persist in the west
of the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the eastern parts of the state on
Friday, clearing by the weekend as dry air pushes across from the west.  The
interior should remain fine and dry.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
