Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald is located over northern parts of the Darling
Downs and Granite Belt district and is moving southeast at 25 km/hr and is
expected to contract in New South Wales on Monday. A trough extends from the far
northern Gulf Country to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald and into New South Wales.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Rain areas with heavy falls will persist about the, Southeast Coast and the
Darling Downs and Granite Belts districts. Rain areas will also persist about
the eastern parts of the Maranoa and Warrego district. Destructive winds are
possible about southern parts of the Southeast Coast and parts of the Darling
Downs and Granite Belt districts. Rough surf, abnormally high tides and coastal
erosion about the Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms over remaining eastern districts and the southern interior.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula, more isolated
over the remaining north tropics. Fine and mostly clear over the central
interior and western parts of the state with fresh southerly winds leading to
elevated fire dangers. Severe fire dangers in the North West, Channel Country,
Central West and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, and
Maranoa and Warrego districts. Strong to gale force and gusty N to NE winds
about the southeast coast. Moderate to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds over
western districts, tending moderate to fresh NE to NW elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Rain areas about the southeast corner of the state will gradually decrease
from the north with further heavy falls possible about the Gold Coast and
southern border. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist
elsewhere about the southeast of the state. Damaging winds may also persist
about the Southeast Coast with rough surf, abnormally high tides and coastal
erosion likely to continue about the Southeast Coast district and Wide Bay and
Burnett district. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist about Cape
York Peninsula with isolated showers and thunderstorms over remaining eastern
districts. Fine about the remainder of the state. Severe fire dangers over the
western districts and parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Goldfields and
Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very High to Severe fire dangers in the Maranoa
and Warrego districts. Strong to gale force and gust N to NE winds about the far
southeast of the state. Moderate to fresh W to NW winds over the northern
tropics. Moderate to fresh S to SW winds over most of the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak surface trough is likely to persist about the southeast of the state
leading to early scattered showers that should clear during the day. An upper
trough is expected to enter the far southwest of the state though no rainfall is
expected. Scattered showers and thunderstorms should persist about Cape York
Peninsula. Fine over the remainder of the state with elevated fire dangers
likely to persist in the west and central interior due to a dry, fresh southerly
flow.
Forecast for Wednesday
The weak upper trough will be slow moving over the central interior, though
no rainfall is expected as the atmosphere remains dry. A surface trough is
likely to extend from the northwest to the southern interior. A moist onshore
flow feeding into areas east of the surface trough should lead to scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms, mostly about east districts. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms should persist about Cape York Peninsula. Fine over
the remainder of the state with elevated fire dangers likely to persist in the
west and central interior due to a dry, fresh southerly flow.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough remains over the interior of the state with a moist
atmosphere persisting over much of the east of the state. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms are expected to persist about the eastern districts with
scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far north in the monsoonal west to
northwest flow. Fine over the west of the state and southern interior of the
state in a dry south to southwest flow. Elevated fire dangers are likely to
persist in the west of the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough is likely to move slowly eastwards as an upper low develops
over far southern Australia. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible
east of a surface trough, especially about the east coast and adjacent inland
areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to persist about the far
north of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
