MELBOURNE - Jan 25/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough currently east of Bass Strait will likely move over eastern Bass Strait this afternoon and evening. A trough over northeastern Victoria will weaken on Sunday as the trough over eastern Bass Strait becomes linked northwards to ex-tropical cyclone Oswald over southeast Queensland. A cold front will cross Tasmania and Bass Strait on Monday. A high pressure ridge will briefly build over southern Victoria on Tuesday as ex-tropical cyclone Oswald moves southwards along the NSW coast and should lie east of Bass Strait Tuesday night. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayShowers and thunderstorms over the east with local heavy falls possible, mainly about the ranges. Isolated showers developing over most remaining southern areas at night. Warm and humid in the northeast with light winds but cool to mild elsewhere with mainly moderate southerly winds.Fire Danger - Generally high but reaching Very High in some northern districts.Sunday 27 JanuaryScattered showers over the east, more extensive over the far east during the morning. Showers easing in the afternoon and contracting to East Gippsland. Possible thunderstorms in the far east at first. Isolated showers in remaining southern areas clearing during the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny over the northwest. A cool to mild day with a light to moderate southerly wind, freshening near the coast during the afternoon.Monday 28 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine in the north. A cool to mild day with a moderate to locally fresh south to southwesterly wind.Tuesday 29 JanuaryIsolated showers in East Gippsland and the chance of showers in remaining southern areas.
