MELBOURNE - Jan 25/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front just east of Bass Strait will move eastwards and weaken tonight but a low pressure trough will persist over eastern Victoria on Saturday. This trough will move to the east of Victoria on Sunday, linking northwards to a tropical depression over southeast Queensland. A cold front will cross Tasmania and brush southern Victoria on Monday. A high pressure ridge will briefly build over southern Victoria on Tuesday and a low pressure system with tropical origins will move southwards over the Tasman Sea and should lie east of Bass Strait Tuesday night. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers in the east with possible thunderstorms about the eastern ranges. Warm in the northeast with light winds but cool to mild elsewhere with southwest to southerly winds, fresh in coast and central regions.Saturday 26 JanuaryShowers and thunderstorms over the east, mainly in the afternoon. Locally heavy falls possible over the northeast. Isolated showers developing over most remaining southern areas at night. Warm and humid in the northeast with light winds but cool to mild elsewhere with mainly moderate southerly winds.Fire Danger - Generally high but locally Very High in the north.Sunday 27 JanuaryScattered to widespread showers in the east, easing late in the day. Possible thunderstorms in the far east at first. Isolated showers in remaining southern areas clearing during the afternoon. Fine over the northwest. A cool to mild day with a light to moderate southerly wind, freshening near the coast during the afternoon.Monday 28 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south. Fine in the north. A cool to mild day with a moderate to fresh south to southwesterly wind.Tuesday 29 JanuaryIsolated showers in East Gippsland and the chance of showers in remaining southern areas.
