For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation The monsoon trough lies from the Gulf Country district in the west, to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald over land west of Mackay, then along the Queensland east coast to near Gladstone. The trough and low are expected to move slowly southwards over the next couple of days. A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge along the southern Queensland coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Moderate to heavy rain areas with squalls and isolated thunderstorms about eastern districts and adjacent inland between Mackay and the Sunshine Coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the remaining northern tropics. Cloudy with rain areas about the remaining areas of southeast Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere in eastern inland districts. Fine and mostly sunny over southern and western parts. Fresh to strong and gusty NW to NE winds about much of the east coast and the tropics. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds elsewhere. Severe to Extreme fire dangers about the North West, Channel Country and Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very High fire dangers about the Gulf Country and Upper Flinders and Goldfields districts. Forecast for Saturday The monsoon trough and low are expected to continue moving slowly south-southeastwards over land near the Capricornia coast. This will maintain squally, moderate to heavy rain periods and isolated thunderstorms about eastern districts and adjacent inland between about Rockhampton and the Gold Coast. Weaker, humid monsoon westerly flow will continue over the northern tropics, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The upper trough over eastern Queensland will combine with moist onshore winds to trigger scattered showers and rain areas about the remaining southeast and adjacent inland parts, tending to isolated showers in the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny over southern and western parts. Very warm to hot conditions in the northwest of the state. Fresh to strong and gusty winds near and southeast of the low, tending gale force through southern and central coastal waters. Forecast for Sunday The monsoon low is likely to be in the vicinity of the Wide Bay and Burnett district and should lead to rain areas, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast of the state, heaviest near the low. However there is considerable uncertainty in the evolution of the forecasts at this stage, dependent on the movement of the low. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue in the moderate monsoon flow over the far north, tending more isolated about remaining eastern districts and the southeast interior. Fine and warm to hot conditions in the northwest. Fresh to strong and gusty winds near and southeast of the low, tending gale force about the southern coastal waters. Forecast for Monday There is considerable uncertainty at this stage with regard to the movement of the low pressure system. Rain areas and isolated showers about the far southeast of the state should ease during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should continue about the northern tropics, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the southeast interior. Fine through the west and the central and southern interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to persist through the tropics in a moderate monsoonal wind flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely to persist about the remainder of the east coast and adjacent inland through the outlook period in the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny through much of inland Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
