MELBOURNE - Jan 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough extends from Queensland into northwest New South Wales, while a high pressure system east of Tasmania extends a ridge along the southern coast. Another trough lies off the coast extending into New South Wales waters from the north. During Thursday the high will move over the southern Tasman Sea strengthening the ridge to the north coast while the inland trough weakens. Another front/trough system is expected to move through the state from Friday. A tropical low on the northern Queensland coast is expected to move south over the next several days and may bring widespread rain to the NSW north coast over the long weekend. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms from the northern inland through to the coast, and for the central ranges, tending scattered over the north coast. Isolated showers through central parts of the coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot in the far west. East to northeast winds.Fire Danger - Very High: Eastern Riverina, Southern Slopes, Lower Central W Plains, Central Ranges, North WesternFriday 25 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the northeast with isolated showers near the far north coast. The chance of showers or thunderstorms in the southeast and Riverina, more frequent near the Victorian border. Northwest to northeasterly winds ahead of a southerly change in the west and southeast.Saturday 26 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the southwest. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, tending scattered about the southern and central ranges and western slopes and on the far north coast. Southeast to northeast winds.Sunday 27 JanuaryRain areas along the north coast and adjacent ranges, possibly heavy. Scattered showers remainder coast and ranges, isolated showers about the western slopes.
