MELBOURNE - Jan 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The tail end of a cold front clipped the Victorian coast overnight. A new high pressure system developing over the Bight will move quickly east to cross Tasmania today before crossing the southern Tasman Sea on Thursday. A cold front linked to a low pressure trough over the continent will cross the Bight on Thursday, western and central Victoria Friday morning then clearing eastern districts Friday afternoon. A low pressure trough will linger over northeastern Victoria over the weekend with another trough over the Tasman Sea just to the east of Bass Strait. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayPatchy drizzle over the south, mainly during the morning. Areas of smoke affecting parts of central and eastern districts. Otherwise a mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, freshening near the coast later.Fire Danger - Moderate to High reaching Very High in the northeast.Thursday 24 JanuaryMostly dry, just the the chance of some morning drizzle patches near the Gippsland coast. A hot to very hot day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds becoming locally fresh in the afternoon. Milder seabreezes developing near the Gippsland coast and a west to southwesterly change over the southwest at night.Friday 25 JanuaryIsolated showers, mainly over the south and east, becoming more extensive over the northeast in the afternoon. Showers clearing from central and western districts at night. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over eastern districts. Warm to hot north to northwesterly winds, freshening during the morning. A cooler fresh and gusty west to southwesterly change extending from the west early in the morning to be through central districts by the afternoon and clearing eastern districts in the evening.Saturday 26 JanuaryScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northeast, mainly in the afternoon. A warm and mostly sunny day elsewhere in the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers or drizzle developing.
