Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge westwards through Bass Strait which cradles a low pressure trough over northeastern Victoria that will persist today. A cold front will cross Tasmania today. A new high pressure system will develop over the Bight late today then move quickly to the south of Tasmania during Wednesday then over the southern Tasman Sea on Thursday. A cold front linking to a low pressure trough over the continent will cross the Bight on Thursday, reaching western Victoria at night before rapidly crossing the State on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from the chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms in the far east. Isolated showers also possible over the southwest coast late in the day. Areas of smoke affecting parts of central and eastern districts. A generally sunny day, just some morning cloud in the south. Warm inland with moderate southwest to southerly winds, milder near the coast with seabreezes becoming locally fresh in the afternoon.Fire Danger -  High to Very High.Wednesday 23 JanuaryPatchy drizzle over the south, mainly during the morning. Otherwise a mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate southeasterly winds, freshening near the coast later.Thursday 24 JanuaryMostly dry, just the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern ranges during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers also possible in the west late in the day. A hot to very hot day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds becoming locally fresh in the afternoon. Milder seabreezes developing near the Gippsland coast and a west to southwesterly change over the southwest at night.Friday 25 JanuaryIsolated showers, mainly over the south and east, contracting to the far eastern ranges at night. Warm to hot north to northwesterly winds in the east, freshening during the morning. A cooler fresh and gusty west to southwesterly change extending from the west early in the morning to be through eastern districts by late afternoon.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Tuesday.Product IDV10310
