Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is directing a hot north to northwesterly flow over Victoria. A low pressure system, being the remnants of Tropical Cyclone "Narelle" is deepening over the Southern Ocean and will track southeastwards well south of Tasmania. An associated cold front has reached western Victoria early this morning and will move rapidly through central and northwestern districts by later this morning and the remainder of the State by early afternoon. A new high pressure ridge will then develop over the Bight and extend through Bass Strait on Saturday and Sunday with a high pressure system developing over the Tasman Sea on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers, scattered about the southwestern coast. Possible thunderstorms over northwestern and central areas in the morning then in the east during the afternoon. Hot in the east with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, locally reaching gale force about Alpine areas. A cooler, fresh and gusty southwesterly change moving through the southwest early in the morning, central parts by late morning and the east by early afternoon.Fire Danger -  Very High reaching Severe in parts of the eastern districts.Saturday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers clearing from the south during the morning. Mild and partly cloudy in the south but warmer and mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Sunday 20 JanuaryWarm and mostly sunny inland with generally light east to southeast winds. Milder and becoming mostly sunny near the coast with freshening afternoon seabreezes.Monday 21 JanuaryIsolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms possible near the eastern ranges. Otherwise a warm to hot and mostly sunny day inland with light winds tending moderate westerly in the afternoon. Milder near the coast with moderate to fresh afternoon seabreezes.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Friday.Product IDV10310
