MELBOURNE - Jan 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough lies near Queensland's western border, while a weak trough
lies over the Gulf of Carpentaria. A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge up
Queensland's southeast coast.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine and partly cloudy over the southeast quarter of the state. Mainly
isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern districts, more
widespread with some moderate to heavy local falls over Cape York Peninsula.
Isolated showers and gusty storms over the remainder of the state. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the central coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Scattered showers and storms about the state's far northern districts and the
northwest, with some moderate to heavy local falls. Areas of patchy rain are
also possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and over Cape York Peninsula.
More isolated showers and storms in a band from the northeast and central coast
through the central interior and down to the Channel Country. Fine and mostly
sunny over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh
at times about the central coast. A high to very high fire danger over most of
the southern half of the state.
Forecast for Friday
A strong monsoonal flow should push into the trough over the Gulf of
Carpentaria waters, and squally rain areas and isolated thunderstorms are
expected over the Peninsula district, Gulf of Carpentaria coast and Torres
Strait. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the
tropics except the central interior where fine and mostly sunny conditions are
expected. Mostly fine about the state's southwest with just the chance of some
isolated storms. Fine and very warm over the southeast quarter.
Forecast for Saturday
The monsoon trough is expected to shift a little further south to extend from
the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast to the northeast tropical coast near
Cairns. Monsoonal rain and thunderstorms to the north of the monsoon trough over
Cape York Peninsula. Mainly isolated showers and storms over the remaining
tropics, except the central interior and the Capricornia region where fine and
mostly sunny conditions are expected. Hot over the southern districts with just
the chance of some isolated showers and storms.
Forecast for Sunday
Monsoonal rain periods and isolated storms are expected over Cape York
Peninsula. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the remainder of the
tropical east coast. A new high south of the continent should push milder
southeast winds over Queensland's southeast, allowing temperatures to ease back
to around the January average. Isolated showers and storms over the southern
districts, and fine and mostly sunny conditions over the central interior and
the northwest.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A strong monsoonal wind flow should continue over the state's far north,
maintaining squally rain areas and isolated storms over at least the Peninsula
district. Mainly fine across the remainder of the state though a weak upper
trough should produce at least some isolated showers and storms about the
eastern districts. Isolated showers and storms are also possible over the far
northwest.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
