Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system will move eastwards across Tasmania tonight and build over the Tasman Sea on Thursday with hot north to northwesterly winds developing over Victoria. A low pressure system, being the remnants of Tropical Cyclone "Narelle" will track southeastwards over waters south of Western Australia and the Bight, eventually deepening and passing well south of Tasmania Thursday night. An associated cold front will reach western Victoria Friday morning and will move rapidly to be east of the state by late Friday afternoon. A new high pressure ridge will then develop over the Bight and extend through Bass Strait on Saturday and Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayDry and clear. Generally light southwest to southeast winds with moderate to locally fresh seabreezes near the coast easing this evening.Thursday 17 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Hot to very hot with moderate to locally fresh north to northwesterly winds. Becoming milder near the coastal fringe with light afternoon seabreezes, locally fresh along the Gippsland coast.Fire Danger -  Very High reaching Severe in parts of the central and western districts.Friday 18 JanuaryIsolated showers, scattered about the southwestern coast. Possible thunderstorms over northwestern and central areas in the morning then in the east during the afternoon. Hot in the east with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, locally reaching gale force about Alpine areas. A milder, fresh and gusty southwesterly change extending from central parts in the morning to reach the east by early afternoon.Saturday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers clearing from the south by early afternoon. Mild and partly cloudy in the south but warmer and mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Sunday 20 JanuaryWarm and mostly sunny inland with generally light east to southeast winds. Milder and becoming mostly sunny near the coast with freshening afternoon seabreezes.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
