Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the north coast of New South Wales while a trough lies over northwest New South Wales. The next significant frontal system is expected to approach southwestern parts of the state on Thursday, preceded by hot northwesterly winds. The front will bring a cooler change to southern districts during Friday, before continuing to the north and weakening on Saturday. An inland trough is expected to develop on Sunday and remain in the west of the state into the new week, a new high pressure system in the Tasman slowly drifts towards New Zealand.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayThe chance of isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms over the far northern inland. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, freshening along the coast in the afternoon. Winds tending more westerly in the far west of the state.Thursday 17 JanuaryThe chance of isolated showers over the northern ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot to very hot inland. East to northeasterly winds, tending northwesterly in the west.Fire Danger -  Very High: Most districts, except for the northeast and far northwest.Friday 18 JanuaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the west and south, extending to central parts by evening. Hot to very hot across most districts. North to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong in the west and south, ahead of a south to southwesterly change extending to northwestern inland and central coastal districts by late evening.Saturday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers in the north and east. Afternoon thunderstorms across the north, mainly near the tablelands. Fine over the southern inland. Northwest to northeast winds in the far northeast, ahead of south to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Sunday 20 JanuaryIsolated showers apart from the southwest. Isolated thunderstorms over the northern inland. South to southeast winds, tending northeast later in the southeast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Thursday.Product IDN10031
