MELBOURNE - Jan 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure centre will remain just to the southwest of Victoria tonight while a weak cold front crosses Tasmania. The high will then move eastwards across Bass Strait on Wednesday then build over the Tasman Sea on Thursday with hot northerly winds developing over Victoria. A low pressure system, being the remnants of tropical Cyclone "Narelle" will track southeastwards over waters south of Western Australia and the Bight, eventually deepening and passing well south of Tasmania Thursday night. This low will drag a trough from the Bight across Victoria on Thursday night and Friday. A new high pressure ridge will then develop over the Bight and extend through Bass Strait on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayDry and mostly clear. Light and variable winds inland but moderate southerlies at first near the coast.Wednesday 16 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Warm to hot inland with light and variable winds. Milder near the coast with light to moderate south to southeast wind, freshening with afternoon seabreezes.Fire Danger - Generally High to very high.Thursday 17 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler west to southwesterly change over the southwest late in the day.Friday 18 JanuaryIsolated showers, scattered about the coast and eastern ranges. Possible thunderstorms over northwestern and central areas in the morning then in the east during the afternoon. Hot in the east until a milder, fresh southwesterly change extends from central parts in the morning to the east early afternoon.Saturday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers clearing from the south and east by the afternoon. Mild and partly cloudy in the south but warmer and becoming mostly sunny in the north.
