MELBOURNE - Jan 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system just southwest of Victoria extends a ridge across Bass Strait today and a new high centre is expected to form over the Tasman Sea tonight. A weak cold front will cross Tasmania on Tuesday night then the main high centre will build over the Tasman Sea on Thursday with hot northerly winds developing over Victoria. During Wednesday the remains of tropical Cyclone "Narelle" will track southeastwards over waters south of Western Australia and the Bight, eventually deepening and passing well south of Tasmania Thursday night. This low will drag a trough from the Bight across Victoria on Thursday night and Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and mostly clear. Light winds inland and sea breezes about the coast until dark.Tuesday 15 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Warm with light and variable winds inland. Milder near the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Wednesday 16 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Warm to hot with light and variable winds inland and afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Thursday 17 JanuaryDry and mostly sunny. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler west to southwesterly change over the southwest late in the day. The chance of local showers after the change.Friday 18 JanuaryPatchy rain and possible thunderstorms, contracting to the east late in the day.
