MELBOURNE - Jan 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is extending a ridge to northern parts of the coast. A trough and frontal system bringing a south to southwesterly change lies through southern parts of the state and is expected to move through central parts overnight. A southerly change behind the front will bring some relief from very hot temperatures to southern and central parts for Wednesday however it will remain hot to very hot in the north. A ridge of high pressure is expected to extend over southern parts of the state, before a high pressure system develops over the Tasman Sea on Thursday and Friday. Hot to very hot conditions are expected to return on Friday and Saturday as the trough redevelops over the west. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayMostly clear skies, apart from some higher level cloud near the southerly change. Very hot northwesterly winds ahead a milder southerly change in the south, and extending along the southern and central parts of the coast.Wednesday 9 JanuaryChance of some early drizzle or a shower along southern and central parts of the coast. Isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms about the north coast and adjacent east ranges. Mostly sunny remainder. Hot to very hot northwesterly airstream in the north of the state ahead of milder southwest to southeast winds.Fire Danger - Severe: Northern coast, ranges and inland. Very high remainder, except far SW and far SE.Thursday 10 JanuaryEarly drizzle possible around central parts of the coast. Isolated showers along the north coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated thunderstorms on the northern ranges. Partly cloudy over the ranges and coast. Sunny inland. Hot in the north of the state. East to southeast winds.Friday 11 JanuaryPossible showers in the northeast and possible thunderstorms over the northern ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot with winds tending northwesterly over the ranges and inland, and tending northeast on the coast.Saturday 12 JanuaryMostly sunny apart from the chance of a coastal shower in the south. Northwest to northeast in the north.
