MELBOURNE - Jan 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak trough of low pressure will linger across eastern Victoria during today and Monday while a high pressure system to the west of Bass Strait crosses Tasmania to reach the Tasman Sea. A cold front will move northwards from the Southern Ocean to cross Victoria on Tuesday night and will be followed by a cooler fresh southerly airstream over the State on Wednesday. A small high pressure ridge will then cross southern Victoria on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine apart from the chance of local showers or thunderstorms about the northeast in the afternoon, mainly about the ranges. Hot and sunny across the north with light to moderate southeast to southerly winds, locally freshening in the afternoon. Mild to warm in the south with fresh southeast winds.Fire Danger - Generally Very high.Monday 7 JanuaryFine. Hot and sunny across inland areas with light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds. Milder along the coastal fringe with moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds.Tuesday 8 JanuaryFine during the day but isolated showers developing near the coast in the evening. Hot and sunny across the north. Mild to warm in the south. Light to moderate west to southwesterly wind tending southerly during the day and freshening.Wednesday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south, clearing by the afternoon. Fine in the north.
