MELBOURNE - Jan 3/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system off the NSW coast will move slowly east across the Tasman today. A trough of low pressure crossing the Bight will enter southwest Victoria Friday afternoon, reaching the central district and northwestern districts at night. The trough will cross the remainder of the state on Saturday but will have little impact on temperatures over northern Victoria. The next high pressure system will develop west of Tasmania on Saturday and pass to the south of Victoria during Sunday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayHot and mostly sunny with freshening northerly winds. A dry southwest to southerly change entering the southwest during the afternoon, reaching the central district and northwestern districts at night. Milder in the south following the change.Fire Danger - Severe to Extreme.Saturday 5 JanuaryDry apart from possible afternoon thunderstorms about the northeast ranges. Hot and sunny inland with light to moderate southerly winds. Milder and partly cloudy near the coast with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Sunday 6 JanuaryDry, hot and sunny across the north with light to moderate southeast to southerly winds. Isolated drizzle developing over Gippsland, but dry and mild to warm elsewhere in the south with fresh east to southeast winds.Monday 7 JanuaryDry apart early drizzle patches over Gippsland. Hot and sunny across inland areas with light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds.
