Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 3/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Northwest, and
parts of the Channel Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
districts, and extends further to include parts of the Central West and Maranoa
and Warrego districts on Friday.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the Queensland east coast. A
surface trough lies over the far southwest of the state. Ex-Tropical Cyclone
Freda lies over New Caledonia and is continuing to move towards the
southeast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, also
developing about parts of the southeast interior. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the southeast interior. Mostly fine along the east coast
with the possibility of shower about.  Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, fresh about the east coast. A severe fire danger over
the Northwest, Channel Country and far southwest parts of the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts, very high elsewhere except for the
eastern tropics and far southeast.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, also
developing about parts of the southeast and central interior during the
afternoon. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered at times
about the North Tropical Coast and Central Coast regions. Fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere. Very warm to hot over western and southern Queensland. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, fresh about the east coast. A severe fire danger over
the Northwest and Channel Country, and parts of the Central West, Maranoa and
Warrego, and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. A very high fire
danger in the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, and Wide Bay and
Burnett districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The stable upper pattern, combined with a firm ridge along the east coast,
will maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions for majority of the state.
Isolated showers are expected along the east coast, and isolated showers and
thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, possibly extending into the
Northwest district. Hot over the western districts. Remaining hot in the
west.
Forecast for Sunday
The firm ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, maintaining fine
and mostly sunny conditions across the state. Isolated showers continuing about
eastern districts tending to scattered in parts of the southern and North
Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over northwest parts of the
state. Hot over the western districts.
Forecast for Monday
The firm ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, maintaining fine
and mostly sunny conditions across the state. Isolated showers continuing about
eastern districts, with isolated showers and thunderstorms over northwest parts
of the state. Hot over the western districts.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The ridge along the east coast is likely to weaken during the period, with
showers along the east coast becoming more isolated along the southern coast.
Remaining fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state, except for some
isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Showers and
thunderstorms may return to southern Queensland from Wednesday.
