Weather Situation
A weakening ridge of high pressure lies along Queensland's east coast, while
a surface trough lies over the far southwest of the state. A coastal trough is
moving through northern New South Wales, and will enter southern Queensland
tonight, with stronger winds developing behind it. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Freda
lies well off Queensland's east coast and is weakening while moving towards the
south.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers in the north and east of the state, with very isolated
showers over the interior. Isolated thunderstorms in northern and central
districts, mostly about the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light
to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the western districts and parts
of the east coast. A severe fire danger over the Northwest district and parts of
the Channel Country, very high elsewhere except for the eastern tropics.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers along the east coast, developing about the southeast
interior in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Very warm to hot over
western and southern Queensland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh about
the east coast and strong at times over southern waters. A severe fire danger
over the Northwest, Channel Country and far southwest parts of the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts, very high elsewhere except for the
eastern tropics and far southeast.
Forecast for Friday
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain the ridge along Queensland's east
coast, and this combined a strong mid level ridge over the interior should
maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of the state. Just
isolated showers about the east coast and isolated showers and storms about the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Hot over the western districts.
Forecast for Saturday
A firm ridge should persist along the east coast, maintaining fine and mostly
sunny conditions across the state, except for some isolated showers about the
east coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast and possibly extending into the North West district. Hot over the western
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The firm ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, maintaining fine
and mostly sunny conditions across the state. Isolated showers continuing about
eastern districts, with isolated showers and thunderstorms over northwest parts
of the state. Hot over the western districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A firm ridge is likely to remain along the east coast, and this, along with
an upper level trough, should allow showers and winds to increase about the
state's far east. Remaining fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state,
except for some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
