parts of the Channel Country districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weakening ridge of high pressure lies along Queensland's east coast, while
a surface trough lies over the far southwest of the state. Tropical Cyclone
Freda lies well off Queensland's east coast and is weakening.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine and mainly sunny across most of the state. Just some isolated showers
and thunderstorms about the tropical eastern districts and the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast, and the chance of some isolated light showers about the Gold
Coast and Moreton Bay islands during the evening. Very warm to hot over the
southern districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the
western districts and parts of the east coast. A severe fire danger over the
Northwest district and parts of the Channel Country, very high elsewhere except
for the eastern tropics.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high over Victoria should extend a ridge along Queensland's east coast,
and this combined with a stable upper pattern, should result in fine and mostly
sunny conditions across the state, except for some isolated showers about parts
of the east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected about
the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Hot over the western districts.
Forecast for Friday
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain the ridge along Queensland's east
coast, and this combined a strong mid level ridge over the interior should
maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of the state. Just
isolated showers about the east coast and isolated showers and storms about the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Hot over the western districts.
Forecast for Saturday
A firm ridge should persist along the east coast, maintaining fine and mostly
sunny conditions across the state, except for some isolated showers about the
east coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Hot over the western districts.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A firm ridge is likely to remain along the east coast, and this, along with
an upper level trough, should allow showers and winds to increase about the
state's far east. Remaining fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state,
except for some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
