MELBOURNE - Dec 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will cross Tasmania and move across eastern Bass Strait on Tuesday. A high pressure system over the Bight will then move eastwards across southern Victoria on Wednesday then over the Tasman Sea on Thursday and Friday. A trough of low pressure will cross the Bight on Thursday then enter the southwest of Victoria on Friday afternoon, moving to central and northwestern districts at night. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayMild and partly cloudy in the south with isolated light showers, mainly near the coast. Fine, warm to hot and mostly sunny over the north. West to southwesterly winds freshening during the afternoon and gradually tending more southerly.Fire Danger - High to very high.Wednesday 2 JanuaryIsolated light showers in the south clearing eastwards during the morning. Fine over the north. Cool to mild in the south, but warm to hot over the north with a moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Thursday 3 JanuaryFine and sunny throughout. Generally hot with light winds tending light to moderate northerly. Milder seabreezes over the Gippsland coast.Friday 4 JanuaryHot and mainly sunny at first with moderate to fresh northerly winds.
