MELBOURNE - Dec 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends from a high south of Adelaide across Bass Strait to another high over the Tasman Sea. The ridge will weaken today as a cold front moves northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to cross Tasmania Monday night and early Tuesday morning. The front will be located over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday allowing the high pressure system to redevelop over Victoria. The high will move over the Tasman Sea on Thursday as a trough of low pressure crosses the Bight. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine. A mostly sunny day. Warm to hot north of the divide with light winds. Milder near the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes developing.Fire Danger - High to Very HighTuesday 1 JanuaryMild and partly cloudy in the south with isolated light showers, mainly near the coast. Fine, warm to hot and mostly sunny over the north. West to southwesterly winds freshening during the afternoon and gradually tending more southerly.Wednesday 2 JanuaryIsolated light showers in the south clearing eastwards during the morning. Fine over the north. Cool to mild in the south, but warmer over the north with a moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Thursday 3 JanuaryFine and sunny throughout. Generally warm to hot inland with light winds tending light to moderate northerly.
