MELBOURNE - Dec 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The tail end of a cold front lying over Bass Strait will clear Sunday as a high pressure system over the Bight approaches southwest Victoria. The high will extend a ridge through Bass Strait Sunday night. On Monday the ridge will weaken as a stronger cold front moves northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to cross Tasmania Tuesday morning. The front will head over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday allowing the high pressure ridge to redevelop over Victoria. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine over the north. Isolated showers or drizzle in the south, mainly near the coast. Light to moderate southwest to southerly winds, locally fresh near the coast.Sunday 30 DecemberFine apart from early morning drizzle patches on the southern slopes of the ranges and isolated fogs in the south. Cool to mild in the south with morning cloud clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon. Warm and sunny over the north. Light to moderate southerly winds.Fire Danger - High to Very HighMonday 31 DecemberFine apart from early fog patches in the south. A mostly sunny day. Warm to hot north of the divide with light winds. Milder near the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes developing.Tuesday 1 JanuaryMild and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers, mainly near the coast. Warm to hot and mostly sunny over the north.Wednesday 2 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south clearing southeastwards during the morning. Fine over the north.
