MELBOURNE - Dec 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over Bight waters will remain slow moving until Saturday, allowing a weak cold front to cross Tasmania. The high will approach western Victoria during Sunday, extending a ridge through Bass Strait. On Monday the ridge will weaken as a stronger cold front moves northeastwards from the Southern Ocean crossing Tasmania Tuesday morning. Forecast for the rest of FridayMostly clear. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds easing this evening.Saturday 29 DecemberFine apart from isolated showers in the south, contracting to the coast in the afternoon. Cool to mild in the south with morning cloud clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon. Warm and sunny over the north. Light to moderate southwest to southerly winds, locally fresh near the coast.Fire Danger - Moderate to High reaching Very High in the northeast.Sunday 30 December Fine apart from early morning drizzle patches on the southern slopes of the ranges. Cool to mild in the south with morning cloud clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon. Warm and sunny over the north. Light to moderate southwest to southerly winds. Monday 31 DecemberMostly sunny. Warm to hot inland with light winds tending moderate west to southwesterly in the afternoon. Milder near the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes developing.Tuesday 1 JanuaryIsolated showers developing near the coast during the afternoon then extending inland over the south during the evening.
