For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1023 hPa] over the Tasman Sea is extending a ridge along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough lies near the western border of Queensland and is expected to move over the Channel Country during Tuesday. A low level trough lies near the tropical coast and is combining with an upper level trough to produce widespread showers, thunderstorms and rain areas over parts of the eastern tropics. Another upper level trough is expected to move over New South Wales and far southern Queensland during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to locally heavy falls over the northern and eastern tropics. Heavy falls likely about the tropical coast and ranges between about Cairns and Mackay. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the west, and through the central and southeast interior including the Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Mostly fine except for some isolated showers about the Southeast Coast. Moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the tropical coast. Forecast for Tuesday Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with local moderate to heavy falls over the northern and eastern tropics. Heavy falls likely about the tropical coast and ranges between about Cairns and Townsville during the morning. Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern and southeast interior, with more isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the west. Isolated showers and thunderstorms spreading into the Southeast Coast late afternoon and evening, mainly inland. A warm to hot day in the south. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, shifting NE to NW over the west ahead of a moderate to fresh and gusty S'ly change moving over the Channel Country during the day. A Severe Fire Danger in parts of the Channel Country. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest and Capricornia districts. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough over the western districts and the upper trough over the state's southeast will help produce scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over most of the state to its east with local moderate to heavy falls. This will include southeast districts as a S'ly change extends along the Southeast Coast during the day. A mid level ridge and relatively dry air should produce fine conditions over the central and southern tropical coasts. Isolated showers about the North Tropical Coast. Temperatures near average. Forecast for Thursday The upper trough should extend from the central interior to the southeast, moving offshore during the day. This combined with generally humid conditions should result in scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the state. More isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northeast tropics due to some drier air. The passage of the surface trough over the far southeast should bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Remaining fine in the far southwest. Day time temperatures a little below average in central and southeast districts. Forecast for Friday The surface trough is likely to persist over the far southwest and over northern New South Wales. Another upper level trough is forecast to move across southern Queensland and is likely to spread scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of western, central, southern and southeast Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue over the far northern tropics, though more isolated in the northeast tropics due to some drier air in place. Fine over the far southwest. Day time temperatures remaining a little below average in central and southern districts. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The surface trough is likely to persist over far western Queensland with showers and thunderstorms expected to continue across most of the state, mostly contracting into the tropics and far west late in the weekend and on Monday as a high south of the continent pushes drier air across the southern and central interior. However, showers are likely to continue about remaining eastern districts in an onshore flow, aided by a trough moving over the eastern Coral Sea. Temperatures near average, rising to above average during the day in the far west from late in the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
