MELBOURNE - Dec 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is slow moving and will weaken during Monday. A low pressure trough over western Victoria will cross central parts of the State this morning then track across eastern districts this afternoon. The next high pressure system will pass south of the Bight on Monday night and will approach Tasmania late on Christmas Day before reaching the Tasman Sea to the east of Tasmania late on Wednesday. The next cold front will move through most of the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers and thunderstorms developing in the east by the afternoon then clearing eastwards tonight with a cooler change. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain areas clearing this afternoon and possible thunderstorms in the southwest this morning. Very warm to hot in the north and east at first with a moderate to fresh northerly wind, stronger over central and Alpine areas. Milder fresh and gusty southwesterly winds across the west extending across central parts late this morning and into the east this afternoon.Fire Danger - Generally very high.Tuesday 25 DecemberMild with isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to Gippsland during the afternoon. Fine, warm and sunny in the north. Moderate south to southeast winds, fresh at times about the coast.Wednesday 26 DecemberMild in the south with isolated showers over East Gippsland, contracting eastwards and clearing in the afternoon. Fine, warm and sunny in the north. Light easterly winds inland, moderate to fresh afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Thursday 27 DecemberIsolated showers and thunderstorms extending from the west, reaching most districts in the afternoon. Hot in the north, warm in the south.
