Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is slow moving and will weaken during Monday. A low pressure trough over the Bight will move steadily eastwards to reach western Victoria Sunday afternoon, central Victoria by Monday morning then pass across the east during Monday afternoon. The next high pressure system will be south of the Bight on Monday and will move eastwards towards Tasmania on Tuesday and should be located in the Tasman Sea by late Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the east from late this morning and becoming more extensive about the northeast ranges during the afternoon. Mostly sunny elsewhere until cloud develops from the southwest later in the afternoon. A very hot day with freshening north to northwest winds ahead of a milder gusty west to southwesterly change, developing over the southwest during the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger -  Severe in the southwest.Monday 24 DecemberScattered showers and thunderstorms in the east, contracting eastwards with a change during the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere, mainly in the south and clearing during the afternoon. Very warm to hot in the north and east at first with a moderate to fresh northerly wind. Milder fresh and gusty southwesterly winds across the west extending throughout by the evening.Tuesday 25 DecemberMild with isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to Gippsland during the afternoon. Fine, warm and sunny in the north. Moderate south to southeast winds, fresh at times about the coast.Wednesday 26 DecemberMild in the south with isolated showers near the Otway Ranges and coast and over Gippsland, contracting eastwards and tending to clear later. Fine, warm and sunny in the north. Light easterly winds inland, moderate to fresh afternoon seabreezes near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Sunday.Product IDV10310
