MELBOURNE - Dec 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge over the Tasman Sea will weaken as a low pressure trough reaches the western border late Saturday evening. The trough will move across western parts of the State on Sunday morning, then extend to central and eastern parts during the afternoon and evening. This trough will stall over the far northeast of the State on Monday and Tuesday as new high pressure system tracks across the Bight. Another weak trough is expected to cross the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast. A warm evening with light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, shifting fresh southerly near the western border towards midnight. Afternoon coastal sea breezes.Sunday 23 DecemberDry and hot to very hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds. Cloud increasing in the south and west during the day with a milder, moderate to fresh and gusty southwest to southerly change extending from the west reaching Ceduna and Port Lincoln by mid-morning, then Cleve, Adelaide and the far southeast during the afternoon, and Woomera to Renmark in the evening.Monday 24 DecemberAreas of cloud with possible isolated showers developing south of about Port Lincoln to Adelaide to Keith. The chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast. Mild about southern coasts, grading to very hot in the northeast. Northerly winds over the Northeast Pastoral, ahead of a gusty southerly change extending northwards. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds over the remainder of the State.Tuesday 25 DecemberThe chance of an early light shower near southern coasts. Possible showers and thunderstorms in the far northeast. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot in the north. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Wednesday 26 DecemberFine and warm to hot with light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Saturday until midnight Wednesday are expected to be less than 2 mm, possibly reaching 5 mm with thunderstorms in the far northeast corner.Thursday until SaturdayPossible isolated showers developing in the far northwest and south on Thursday, contracting to southern and western coasts on Friday then becoming fine on Saturday. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot in the north.
