MELBOURNE - Dec 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge that extends across Bass Strait from a high in the Tasman Sea will weaken tonight. A low pressure trough developing over the western Bight will move steadily eastwards to reach western Victoria Sunday afternoon, central Victoria by Monday morning then pass across the east during Monday afternoon. The next high pressure system will be south of the Bight on Monday and will move eastwards towards Tasmania on Tuesday and should be located in the Tasman Sea by late Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayGenerally clear with coastal seabreezes easing.Sunday 23 DecemberIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the east during the afternoon and becoming more extensive about the northeast ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere until cloud develops from the southwest later in the afternoon. A very hot day with freshening north to northwest winds ahead of a milder gusty southwest change, developing in the southwest during the afternoon and extending to southern central areas and the northwest in the evening.Fire Danger - Severe in the southwest.Monday 24 DecemberScattered showers and thunderstorms in the east, contracting eastwards with a change during the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere, mainly in the south and clearing during the afternoon. Warm to hot in the north and east at first with a moderate to fresh northerly wind. Milder fresh and gusty southwesterly winds across the west extending throughout by the evening.Tuesday 25 DecemberMild with isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to Gippsland during the afternoon. Fine, warm and sunny in the north. Moderate south to southeast winds, fresh at times about the coast.Wednesday 26 DecemberMild in the south with isolated showers near the Otway Ranges and coast and over Gippsland, contracting eastwards and tending to clear later. Fine, warm and sunny in the north.
