MELBOURNE - Dec 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea near New Zealand and extends a ridge of high pressure through central parts of New South Wales. A weakening trough lies over the northern inland of the state. A cold front and associated trough lie near southwest Victoria and are expected to enter the southwest of New South Wales later Wednesday evening. This trough and frontal system are expected to move through New South Wales on Thursday, before weakening in the northeast of the state on Friday. A high pressure system will build over the south of the state on Friday following this trough, before moving across the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Possible late showers or thunderstorms in the far southwest. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot day in the west. Northeast to northwesterly winds.Thursday 20 DecemberIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the northeast tending scattered in the far northeast. Isolated clearing showers in the southern inland. The chance of showers or thunderstorms on the south coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Hot northerly winds ahead of a milder southerly change in the west and southeast.
