Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure across southern Victoria has weakened with a small high forming in the Tasman Sea. A cold front will enter western Victoria late this morning and reach central districts in the evening before clearing eastern districts on Thursday morning. A high pressure system located south of the Bight on Thursday will cross Bass Strait on Friday. The next low pressure trough will be over the Bight on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayWarm to hot and mostly sunny at first with north to northwesterly winds becoming fresh to strong. Cloud increasing from the west with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms tending to a band of rain near a cooler, gusty west to southwesterly change. The change to reach the far southwest late morning, extending to central districts by late afternoon and reaching eastern districts at night.Fire Danger -  High to Very High reaching Severe in the northwest.Thursday 20 DecemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms clearing from the east during the morning. Isolated morning showers to follow elsewhere in the south. Mild in the south but warmer over the north with moderate to locally fresh southwesterly winds.Friday 21 DecemberIsolated morning drizzle near the coast. Mild and partly cloudy in the south, warm and mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate southerly winds and freshening afternoon coastal seabreezes.Saturday 22 DecemberWarm to hot and mostly sunny inland with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon. Becoming milder near the coast with moderate to fresh afternoon seabreezes developing.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
