A mid level trough is approaching from the west, and is expected near the Northern Territory border this afternoon. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms in a broad band from the state's northwest through the central interior and down to the southern interior and southeast. Some of the thunderstorms in this band may be severe, and some areas of thundery rain are also expected over the northwest district. More isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over the southeast tropics and the Central Coast region. Fine and mostly sunny in the state's far northeast. Cloudy with the chance of some isolated gusty thunderstorms over the southwest of the state. Very warm to hot over the southern districts. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over most of the state, fresh at times along the southeast coast. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds and a Severe Fire Danger over the southwest. A high to very high fire danger over the remainder of the southern and central interior. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough is likely to remain over Queensland's southwest, while the mid level trough should stretch from the state's northwest down to the southeast. A band of mainly scattered showers, thunderstorms and patchy rain areas should extend from the northwest to the southern interior and spread eastwards during the day. Some moderate to locally heavy falls are possible within this band in the southern and central interior. More isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and the northern interior. Fine and mostly sunny about the tropical east coast. Day time temperatures returning to near the December average across the interior due to the cloud band, though above average temperatures are still expected about the southeast ahead of some late, patchy thundery rain. Forecast for Friday The surface trough is likely to remain over Queensland's southwest while the mid level trough tracks further northwards and stretches from the state's northwest to the Central Coast region. The cloud band with showers, patchy rain areas and thunderstorms should stretch from the northwest into the central interior, and some moderate to locally heavy falls are possible. More isolated thunderstorms are also expected over the remainder of the eastern districts, except about the tropical east where just some isolated showers are expected near the coast. Fine and mostly sunny in the state's southwest. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough should remain well inland, whilst the mid level trough should stretch between the northwest and the central coast. Both weather systems should combine to produce mainly scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the state, tending to patchy areas of thundery rain about the northern and central interior during the day. Isolated showers across the far east of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The upper level trough should drift over the northern tropics late on the weekend, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms and areas of patchy thundery rain in the region. More isolated thunderstorms are possible over the southern interior on Sunday, whilst the southeast may experience some isolated showers. A weak ridge should keep the state's far southeast mostly fine early in the new week except for some isolated showers, though northerly winds associated with the ridge should produce humid and very warm to hot conditions over the southern districts. Fine except for some coastal showers about the remaining eastern districts early in the new week, and at least isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
