MELBOURNE - Dec 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system just southwest of Victoria will slip southeastwards over Tasmania on Saturday with an associated low pressure trough moving from western Victoria across central areas late this morning into eastern Victoria this afternoon. A cold front will move across Bass Strait early on Sunday as the next high pressure system develops over Bight waters. A ridge of high pressure will extend across southern Victoria on Monday and Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayHumid. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, becoming more widespread about the central and eastern ranges in the afternoon, but clearing from the northwest. Locally heavy falls with thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly wind, strong about Alpine areas, shifting cooler west to southwesterly in the west and south.Fire Danger - High in the northwest.Sunday 16 DecemberShowers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated. Isolated thunderstorms over the east, clearing in the early morning. Becoming fine over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate southerly winds.Monday 17 DecemberIsolated showers near the coast and in the far east, otherwise fine. A cool partly cloudy day in the south but milder and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Tuesday 18 DecemberFine apart from isolated showers over far east Gippsland in the morning.
