Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over South Australia will develop into a weak low over southwestern Victoria tonight. The low will slip southeastwards over Tasmania on Saturday with the associated low pressure trough moving into eastern Victoria. A cold front will move across Bass Strait early on Sunday as the next high pressure system develops over Bight waters. A ridge of high pressure will extend across southern Victoria on Monday and Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayCloudy with areas of rain. Isolated thunderstorms developing in the west during the evening. Generally light winds.Saturday 15 DecemberHumid. Rain areas contracting east with scattered showers and thunderstorms to follow, becoming widespread over central and eastern parts in the afternoon, but clearing from the northwest. Locally heavy falls with thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly wind, strong about Alpine areas, shifting cooler west to southwesterly in the west and south.Fire Danger -  High in the northwestSunday 16 DecemberShowers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated. Isolated thunderstorms over the east, clearing in the early morning. Becoming fine over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate southerly winds.Monday 17 DecemberIsolated showers near the coast and in the far east, otherwise fine. A cool partly cloudy day in the south but milder and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Tuesday 18 DecemberFine apart from isolated showers over far east Gippsland in the morning. A cool to mild and mostly sunny day with light to moderate south to southeast winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Saturday.Product IDV10310
