MELBOURNE - Dec 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system centred near New Zealand is maintaining a ridge to northwestern New South Wales. A low pressure trough lies through the far southwest of the state. This trough will move across the western and southeastern districts on Saturday. An associated southerly change will move from southern parts of the coast on Sunday, reaching central parts early Monday and becoming slow-moving in the northeast later on Monday, where it will remain into the middle of the week. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers developing along Victorian border with the chance of thunderstorms in the far southwest. Mostly sunny in the north. Southeast to northeasterly winds in the east, and northeast to northwesterly winds in the west. A southerly change moving through the southwest.Saturday 15 DecemberIsolated showers over the south and west, more likely near the Victorian border, extending to central districts during the day. The chance of thunderstorms across the south and west, more likely with and ahead of the southerly change. Little if any rainfall reaching the ground in the northwest. Remaining fine and hot in the northeast. North to northeasterly winds, southwesterly change in the west, reaching the southern slopes later in the afternoon or evening.Fire Danger - Very High Greater Hunter, Central Ranges, Nth Slopes, Nth Western, Upper Central Wst Slopes & PlainsSunday 16 DecemberThe chance of showers and thunderstorms in the southeast and northeast, more likely over the southern slopes and ranges. Fine and partly cloudy in the remainder of the state. Hot in the northeast. North to northeasterly winds ahead of a south to southwesterly change reaching central parts by the end of the day.Monday 17 DecemberIsolated showers along the coast, ranges and parts of the adjacent slopes. The chance of a thunderstorm in the northeast. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Northwest to northeast winds in the northeast of the state, southerly winds in the remainder.Tuesday 18 DecemberIsolated showers along the coast and eastern ranges, contracting northwards during the day. the chance of a thunderstorm on the northeastern ranges and coast. Fine and sunny elsewhere. East to southeast winds along the coast, tending northeast in the north.
