MELBOURNE - Dec 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough crossing central Victoria will move into the north of the State Friday morning then stall. A cold front will move from the Southern Ocean to reach western Victoria on Saturday morning then extend to eastern parts Saturday night. A new high pressure system will develop over Bight waters on Sunday and should be lying just to the west of Victoria on Monday with a ridge over Bass Strait. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA line of showers and thunderstorms from the northwest to central districts moving eastwards and weakening after dark. An associated gusty cool southwest to southerly change in the south but remaining warm in the north.Friday 14 DecemberWarm to hot and humid in the north with isolated showers possible thunderstorms. Mild and cloudy in the south with areas of rain developing and possible late thunderstorms. Generally light winds.Fire Danger - Locally high in the north.Saturday 15 DecemberHumid with showers becoming widespread in southern and mountain areas along with scattered thunderstorms. Locally heavy falls with thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly wind, shifting cooler southwesterly in the west during the afternoon.Sunday 16 DecemberShowers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated. Isolated thunderstorms over the east, clearing. Becoming fine over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate southerly winds.Monday 17 DecemberIsolated showers near the coast and in the far east, otherwise fine. A cool partly cloudy day in the south but milder and mainly sunny in the north.
