MELBOURNE - Dec 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system east of Tasmania will move slowly eastwards across the southern Tasman Sea during tonight and Thursday. Meanwhile a low pressure trough developing over South Australia today will move over western Victoria on Thursday before lingering over western and central Victoria on Friday and into Saturday. A cold front will move from the Southern Ocean to reach western Victoria late on Saturday. The cold front will catch up to the trough on Sunday and move through eastern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMostly clear. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds and local seabreezes along the coast.Thursday 13 DecemberA mostly sunny morning, high cloud increasing from the west in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the southwest in the afternoon with showers possibly reaching central districts at night. Otherwise a very warm to hot day with moderate northerly winds. Milder afternoon seabreezes developing along the coast.Fire Danger - Generally Very High.Friday 14 DecemberWarm to hot and humid with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing, mostly over western and central areas. Areas of rain developing over the north. Light to moderate north to northeast winds tending northwesterly in the afternoon. Local afternoon seabreezes developing near the coast.Saturday 15 DecemberHumid with rain areas contracting to the northeast in the afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms redeveloping in the afternoon and evening. Warm, moderate north to northwest winds tending milder west to southwesterly over the west.Sunday 16 DecemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the east contracting to the far east and clearing in the afternoon. Scattered showers to follow in the south contracting to East Gippsland and the coast at night.
