Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country for
today.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. A surface trough extends from Queensland's far
northwest into the southern interior.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the western Gulf Country
and western districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also possible over
the higher terrain in the far southeast. Isolated showers over the southeast and
central interior, tending scattered near the ranges. Scattered to isolated
showers along the northeast tropical coast. Fine though partly cloudy over the
remainder of the state. A warm to hot day over the interior. Light to moderate
SE to NE winds, fresh and gusty over the interior and at times along the east
coast. A Severe fire danger in the Channel Country. A Very High fire danger in
the remainder of western districts, most central districts and the Darling Downs
and Granite Belt.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to drift into the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea,
whilst still maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions over the central coast
and the northern interior. Mostly fine over the state's northeast, though some
showers are possible about northern Cape York Peninsula. A new surface trough
should move over the southwest, with showers and thunderstorms in a band from
the Gulf Country and northwest down through the central west and into the
southern and southeastern interior. Isolated showers over the Southeast Coast,
with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms inland and about the ranges.
Daytime temperatures remaining above average over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
A new high south of the continent should restrengthen the ridge along the
east coast and cause isolated showers about most of the east coast and adjacent
inland, tending more scattered in the southeast. The surface trough over the
southwest should remain near stationary, and will again allow showers and
thunderstorms to form in a band from the state's northwest, through the central
west and into the southern and southeast interior. Fine over the remainder of
the state. Daytime temperatures remaining above average over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move into the southern Tasman and maintain a firm
ridge over the east Queensland coast with scattered showers about the east
coast, more isolated over the adjacent inland. The surface trough over the
southwest is expected to weaken and move out of Queensland, allowing isolated
showers and thunderstorms to continue over the west of the state and across the
southern and southeast interior. Fine over the remainder of the state. Daytime
temperatures remaining a little above average over the west.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
An onshore wind flow combined with an upper level trough over the Coral Sea
should bring showers over Queensland's eastern districts. The weak surface
trough is expected to persist over central Australia, however weakening
instability and a gradual drying of the airmass to its east will make showers
and thunderstorms increasingly unlikely over inland Queensland from mid-week.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
