For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system over southern Australia will maintain a flow of dry air over most of Queensland. A weak surface trough stretches from the Gulf Country to the northern interior. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Fine, dry and mostly sunny over most of the state, except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northeast districts, the northern interior, the Peninsula district and the eastern parts of the Gulf Country. Above average temperatures over the northern and central districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the central coast and the state's northwest. Winds shifting SW'ly during the day over the southeast interior. A Severe to Extreme fire danger for the Northwest and parts of the Channel Country, Central West, Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Friday The high should move into the Tasman Sea and should push some moisture and showers over Queensland's southeast and northeast districts. Meanwhile the surface trough is expected to lie over the west of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over the state's far north and northwest regions. Fine, dry and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Saturday The high should remain over the Tasman Sea and should continue to push some showers over Queensland's southeast and northeast districts, though these showers should be very isolated over the northeast. A weak mid level trough may also allow isolated thunderstorms to form over the southern border ranges during the afternoon and evening. The surface trough should lie over the southwest of the state, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected to its east over most of the western districts. Daytime temperatures again rising to well above the December average over the Channel Country. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to drift into the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea, but is nonetheless expected to maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over the central coast and the northern interior. Mostly fine over the state's northeast, though some isolated showers are possible about the north tropical coast and some isolated thunderstorms may occur over the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. The surface trough should drift eastwards across the southern interior, allowing mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms to form in a band from the state's northwest down through the central west and into the southern interior and the southeast. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A new high pressure system will reinforce the ridge of high pressure along Queensland's east coast, and an associated onshore wind flow should push showers onto the state's eastern districts. The surface trough should stretch from the state's northwest to the southern interior, and mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in a band from the northwest down to the state's southeast early in the new week, before contracting into the western districts and southern interior during the week. Maximum temperatures above the December average over the western districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
