MELBOURNE - Dec 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for Wednesday for most of the state except for the northeast and central districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak trough extends from the Gulf Country down to the central coast, with northerly winds ahead of the trough producing hot conditions over the far northern and most eastern districts. A high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight extends a firm ridge over southern and western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Country, the Tropics and the northern parts of central districts. Fine, dry and sunny conditions elsewhere. Average to below average temperatures over the southwest and southern interior. Warm to hot temperatures over eastern districts and the tropical interior. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics, fresh at times. Moderate to fresh SE to SW winds over remaining districts. A severe fire danger over most of the state except for the northeast and central districts. Forecast for Thursday The high pressure system should move east over southeastern Australia and into the Tasman Sea extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland, contracting the trough into the northern interior. Fresh SE winds will extend north along the east coast to the tropics, injecting moisture into the southern tropical interior. Isolated showers in the southeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms likely to continue in the tropics and extend further west into the tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Dry air will continue to bring enhanced fire dangers to the western interior. Forecast for Friday The high should remain over the Tasman Sea with the associated onshore flow expected to produce isolated showers along the east coast and southeast interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected east of the surface trough over the northwest and the central and tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Forecast for Saturday The high should remain over the Tasman Sea and maintain an onshore flow with isolated showers along most of the east coast of Queensland, though the central coast and southern tropical coast is likely to remain fine. The surface trough should drift westwards into western districts, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected to its east over far western districts, the Cape York Peninsula and the north west tropical interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The ridge is expected to relax on Sunday before the next upstream high pressure system provides re-enforcement on Monday. Isolated showers are therefore possible for eastern districts in the onshore wind flow, tending scattered at times. The surface trough should linger over the interior of the state, drifting into the southeast interior on Monday, before retreating west back over the southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible near the trough over western and southern interior districts and the southeast on Monday. The passage of an upper level trough over southeast Queensland on Sunday should also help to produce some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
