MELBOURNE - Dec 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will move eastwards across Victoria overnight, reinforcing a vigorous southwesterly flow. The next high pressure system will develop over the Bight and move eastwards across Victoria and Bass Strait during Thursday to reach the Tasman Sea by Friday. A cold front will move eastwards across Victoria during Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers on and south of the ranges, tending more widespread about the west and south Gippsland coast and near the Otways tonight. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the Otways later tonight. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres. Fine in the north. Partly cloudy with fresh to strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 5 DecemberScattered showers on and south of the ranges, tending to rain at times near the Otways and over west and south Gippsland during the early morning. Isolated showers extending over the northern plains during the late morning, but remaining dry in the far northwest. Showers becoming more isolated from the west during the afternoon and contracting to near the coast in the evening. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the coast during the morning. Showers falling as snow above 1300 metres, clearing later in the day. Cool and mostly cloudy with with fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times in the south during the morning, then easing from the west during the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger - Moderate to High.Thursday 6 DecemberIsolated morning showers about the central and Gippsland coasts, otherwise fine. Warm inland with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon and high cloud increasing from the west. Cooler and partly cloudy near the coast with moderate afternoon seabreezes.Friday 7 DecemberPartly cloudy with isolated showers possible in the west. Warm to hot with light to moderate northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes by the Gippsland coast.Saturday 8 DecemberHot and dry with fresh northerly winds ahead of a cooler, gusty southwesterly change developing in the southwest around midday and extending northeastwards during the afternoon and evening.
