Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for today for most of
the state except the far eastern tropics and the far northern districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast of Queensland and is
pushing hot to very hot northerly winds across the state ahead of a weak trough
extending from the northwest to the southeast interior. The trough will move
northeast during the day, extending from the Gulf of Carpentaria to the
Southeast Coast by afternoon.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms through
central districts east of Emerald, the Wide Bay and Burnett district and the far
north of the Southeast Coast district. Partly cloudy but fine elsewhere in the
southeast with very hot, dry and gusty westerly winds. Possible isolated
showers and afternoon thunderstorms in the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere. Hot temperatures over the tropical interior and below average
temperatures over the southwest and southern interior. Light to moderate N to
NW winds over northern and eastern districts, fresh and gusty about the
southeast. Moderate S'ly winds over western districts, fresh and gusty at
times. A severe fire danger over most of the state except the far northern
districts and the eastern tropics, and an extreme fire danger in the southeast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough is expected to contract east off the Fraser Coast into the
southern Coral Sea but slope back into the tropics. Isolated shower and
thunderstorm activity should therefore contract north into the central coast,
the eastern tropics and the tropical interior north of Georgetown. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere. A high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight is
expected to move slowly eastwards towards southeastern Australia bringing milder
conditions to the western interior, though dry southerly winds will still
produce elevated fire dangers over much of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The high pressure system should move east over southeastern Australia and
into the Tasman Sea extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland,
contracting the trough into the northern interior. Fresh SE winds will extend
north along the east coast to the tropics, injecting moisture into the southern
tropical interior. Isolated showers along the east coast and northern parts of
central districts with thunderstorm activity likely to continue in the tropics
and extend further west into the tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Dry air will continue
to bring enhanced fire dangers to the western interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high should remain over the Tasman Sea with the associated onshore flow
expected to produce isolated showers along the east coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms are expected east of the surface trough over the northwest and the
central and tropical interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over
remaining parts of the state.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge should persist along the east coast with isolated showers possible
for eastern districts in the onshore wind flow. The surface trough should remain
stretched between the northwest and the southeast interior, with some isolated
showers and thunderstorms possible near the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
